Types of Coaching Approaches
There are a range of coaching approaches and each individual will have very specific needs and requirements. These needs will be assessed in the initial consultation where your expert qualified coach will ask you a series of questions to better understand your needs and goals. Your coach will share the approach they feel will best suit your personality, learning style and needs although you will also have the opportunity to discuss which approach you feel you will engage with best.
Directive Coaching
The Directive coaching approach sees the role of the coach as the expert and the client’s role as the apprentice. The client needs support in what to do and the coach is the decision maker. The coach plays the expert and is directing the client. This approach works very well for clients who are very new or inexperienced in their current role or who have experience severe difficulty in setting or achieving their goals.
Facilitative Coaching
The Facilitative Coaching approach is more of a sounding board where the client sets the goals and knows what they want to achieve. The coach facilitates this through expert coaching, deep questioning and active listening. This approach is ideal for senior and executive leaders who have a very clear plan and vision, but need support in sounding it out and using a coach to help decipher, gather and execute their strategy with utmost precision and effectiveness.
